ESPN’s “big board” (from Givony and Schmitz) have Houstan 56th.

They only showed his top 5

I really, really hope Murray is not the one out of a pool that has Ivey, Sharpe, and Mathurin that Weaver decides to pick. The discussion around Murray seems to always revolve around getting production now, and completely disregards the fact that Mathurin would give you exactly that with better defense.

Regardless, if Sharpe’s physical attributes are as good as they say it is, we should pick him if not Ivey.

Everything about Weaver’s track record screams Sharpe or Ivey.

I’m very fine with sharpe or Ivey, but I would honestly prefer sharpe

Sharpe or Ivey is a win in my books.

I know Ivey is an elite athlete but he has some big question marks. He has no mid range game, he’s not a good defender and he has a slow and low release on his shot

Even with the first round promise?
How is that supposed to be reconciled?

Big board is a general ranking. All it takes is one team to have him in their top 30 to get a promise

Who said first round promise? Schmitz didn’t.

So it’s not a prediction of where the players are expected to go but instead a ranking of players?
So it’s not a mock draft?
The post I replied to describes it as a mock draft.

The big board that I referenced is a ranking of players.

They ALSO just released a mock 20 mins ago, where Houstan is 30th.

Yes. The big board that mgl referenced is a ranking. But they also do mock drafts. Looks like Givony has Houstan going #30 to OKC now

Thanks. That means he’s gone.

I’ve got to say, the more I look over the players (via highlights lol), the less I’m worried about having the fifth pick. While it’s not as good as last year’s draft, I have a feeling it is better than what everyone says it is. I think there’s a few Jrue Holiday level all star players in the first round that can be significant contributors on a contending team.

So, without a top 2 pick, we’re in the muck with the rest of the top 10 teams in scouting out the best talent because I don’t think the picks are as cut and dry as the mock draft board makes it out to be.

My impression is:

Mathurin, who I mentioned earlier, is a physically gifted, 6’7" guard who has a great motor on both ends of the floor. Looks to be a solid defender, at the very least, and his shooting should at least be decent. He also provides the team with the athleticism it needs.

Jeremy Sochan is a 6’9", 18 year old wing who looked like a stud defender at Baylor with incredible length and defensive instinct. He can move the ball well on the floor and attack the rim. 30% shooter from 3.

Ousmane Dieng: This is the one whose scouting report hinges entirely on how good his competition was because if it’s legit he could be one of the best prospects in his class, at least from what I’ve seen of him. Athletic defender at 6’10" (18 years old) who plays like Josh Giddey on the other end and can shoot the ball.

Shaedon Sharpe: Board has already spoken about him ad nauseum but the prospect of an athletic Cade right next to Cade is pretty savory and that is the wild hope that you place on Shaedon Sharpe.

AJ Griffin: Just a shooter like Caleb but a truly elite one and he’s 18. Not a big fan of his when compared to the others, his defense doesn’t seem too great.

Ivey: Spoken about.

Dyson Daniels: 6’6" guard from G League Ignite who apparently has good play making ability, I don’t really know much about him.

Looks like Weaver’s work’s cut out for him. There’s a home run in there somewhere when you’re sitting at 5 in this draft, and it’s going to take some work and courage to pull it off

Yup. This is a do-your-homework pick. There’s talent there, and it does seem like one of a group of 4-5 players pickable in that spot might pop.

According to the UMHoops draft board, the pick is either Jabari, Chet, Paolo, Ivey or Sharpe. Possibly Murray.

Those first 5 sound about right to me . I draft whoever’s left in that group

Daniels’ highlights look good (obviously) and he’s a good athlete but his season in the g League was nowhere what Green or Kuminga didn last year. On one hand, we know from those two, the program can turn out good rookies. On the other, this class seemed to struggle a lot more than last year’s.

Daniels is a Pg with a questionable jumper and a good defender. I don’t like him for the Pistons given they have one of those.

So if it came down to Ivey or Sharpe whatever it is. How would the Pistons improve the big man situation?? I would be surprised if Sacramento took a guard since they have Fox/Mitchell locked in and then a frontcourt of Holmes/Barnes/Sabonis but it’s the Kings.

I like Ayton but not at 30 mil. Would Nurkic be good value? I can’t see the Pistons still trying to play Stewart at the 5 since he fits better at the 4 and can switch on the perimeter but if they bring Bagley back the Pistons have a rotation of bigs that include those two and Olynyk yet none of them can body any C’s?? Gobert might be available but he carries 38+ million for each of the next 4 years.
