Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

lol I’ve been passing this one around the group chats

it’s not relevant to the Pistons anymore because it’s basically impossible for them to fall to seventh barring a plague, but I remember making the argument here when people were fretting that the Pistons wouldn’t make the playoffs that there weren’t 10 teams TRYING to make the playoffs. I guess I’m sort of wrong in that the Bulls ambition is currently outweighing their incompetence.

ALSO PISTONS FANS HERE IS WHERE I TAKE MY “L”

I had missed the 65 game requirement on All-NBA. Given current games played levels, barring injury, I think I agree, Cade is All-NBA.

Cade’s is All NBA when he cracks the top 15 to DARKO and not a minute sooner!

The Clippers will be without Kawhi and Powell tonight. The Pistons are without Ivey, Tobias, and maybe Stew.

Yeah I think he’s got it locked up unless Edey or Kelel Ware go on a tear.
(Or Jaylen Wells.)

I think Jaylen Wells should be ROTY

doubt he will be

The thing about ROTY is that you always get people people posting the boom games, but I don’t recall the “STEPHON CASTLE POSTED 28% FROM THE FLOOR IN THE LAST FOUR GAMES” for the 4 that preceded this

I’d take Castle’s future over wells.

Well, the only touch points I have to evaluate my NBA Draft takes are if I see a random tweet about them, I see them in the playoffs, or they become famous in a couple of years.

So I will dare post in here when I see a ROTY favorite.

Yeah I think Wells should win since he’s starting and doing well for a second tier title contender which is pretty rare for a rookie. But Castle has the counting stats which is generally what voters care about

Kyle Smith, a generational eye for talent? People are talking.

Wells, Chinyelu, Cluff, Isaac Jones, bunch of dudes from that team last year. And Myles Rice.

Is that really where we’re at in this rookie class? That’s grim.

The Bulls (24-38) are on pace to have the worst record ever for a team in the play-in tournament. The Hawks (28-34) are on pace to have the second-worst record ever for a No. 9 seed in the play-in tournament (behind only the 2022 Pelicans, who actually made the playoffs at 36-46). The Magic (29-34) are on pace to have the worst record ever for a No. 8 seed in the play-in tournament. The Heat (29-31) are on pace to have the worst record ever for a No. 7 seed in the play-in tournament.

Additionally - I caught part of the Pistons game last night. I think it underlined, for me, how nice having Ivey back will be. They got a great game offensively from Cade, and a very good one from Schroeder, but the Clippers were really effective at turning the water off nearly everywhere else (they got a solid Beasley game - 4/10 from 3, 1/2 from 2). I realize Ivey would largely play that Schroeder role (who was good), but just having another dynamic piece offensively instead of a slew of largely dependent talents (Timmy, Duren, Stew, Fontecchio, Harris when he plays) would really help.

It also really warmed my heart to see Kris Dunn still out there making peoples lives absolute hell on defense.

Ultimately they probably lost because Harden turned the clock back for a night, but I think it did show how limited this group can be offensively, still.

Your point on Ivey is why some of the fans are missing on because they claimed that Ivey made the team worse and they weren’t winning with him on the court (they actually were) without factoring in Ausar limited PT, other pieces has gotten better plus Beasley going nuclear since Jan 1. The Pistons had to trade for Schroder because they need a ballhandler. Ivey is one of the few players who can generate the offense by himself with his explosive burst and create for other. Throw in his tangible shooting improvement, I want to see the Pistons with a fully healthy roster next season.

I thought it’s notable to have a date. First time I’ve seen this for Ivey. I don’t expect March 23 but I would have to think it’s a date for an another evaluation. His injury isn’t remotely similar to Hutch’s injury since Hutch suffered both tibula and fibula fracture while Ivey suffered a fibula fracture. I would have to imagine that the team may have already started working on strengthen his lower body by then.
