I will be rooting for you all. Like that squad.

Love Beasley

I mean he’s no Fontecchio

Pistons have some amazing momentum going, please don’t let it die to Brooklyn

In many ways the nets are outplaying the pistons

But Cam Johnson is shooting 15% on 20+ shots so

Agreed (derogatory)

Harrumph! (harrumphed)

Seriously the Pistons are about to win a game in which they took 20 fewer shots by 20 points

And where they turned the ball over 27 times.

Will the Pistons activate Ivey for the playoff if he’s cleared?

if he’s cleared, absolutely

I know its tempting to say “they’ve played better without him”, but I think that negates that most of the time without him is WITH Thompson, who is positive, and also includes the “Malik Beasley re-inacts the Larry Bird/Magic Johnson/Michael Jordan play horse commercials” period

Is there a reason why you wouldn’t activate him?

I’m guessing that their best stretch has come without him, but I address that above

I’d simply keep Beasley and Thompson’s roles intact and take a looooong critical look at Timmy (sorry Timmy) when trying to find minutes for Ivey

Ivey had 57% true shooting on 26% usage. Too many turnovers, but you can’t convince me that’s not helpful

Right, I get those reasons, but just because he is active doesn’t mean you even have to play him much

Yeah, you you’d probably want to test out to see how well the team plays defense with Ivey back before you commit big minutes, but Timmy’s role is the obvious place to cut. Right now his job is to just jack up a three whenever Cade passes him the ball. Ivey was shooting well this year on not too many fewer attempts so he should be able to play that role plus a little extra.

Honestly, total defensive rating hasn’t shifted much at all since he went out. The offense got much better (but I think lots of that is Beasley hitting 50% of 11 threes a game)

I voted no because I just don’t think you bring a guy back after missing months of time to have his first game be in the playoffs. It’s a different level of play that most on this team haven’t experienced. Ivey will need weeks, or more, to get conditioning back up. I’m sure they will activate him, since they kept the ability to do it by not putting him on the IR, but I don’t think he’d be in the rotation.

Idk how to find month my month O/DRating stats for teams (which I think would be better to look at). Best I could find quickly were just the on/off stats : 2024-25 Detroit Pistons On/Off | Basketball-Reference.com

Right now has defense as 5.7 points per 100 better with Ivey off the floor. Timmy at 6.9 per 100.

Yeah, I just looked at their defensive rating as a team in early January vs. now, and it hasn’t moved terribly much (they were and remain a solid defense)

they jumped big time in offense in the past 7 weeks

I wouldn’t rush him back, but what was his overall timetable? the goal this year is to play competitive in a playoff series and maybe steal a series. just want to get this young core as many playoff reps as possible and build from there
