Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

Stewart was terrible tonight. Can someone take his contract?

God I hate these corny MFers. The trash talk to talent ration is astronomical. Only team that can make me root for the Celtics.

Imagine dancing after going 1-9 from 3ā€¦ Almost like he was the mascot of the US Olympic Team.

Rough to lose when Hali and Nembhard both stink

5/30 from 3 outside of Hardaway

Caris has 19 points and 4 assists on 9 shots with 8 to play

Cooper Flagg youā€™re a Raptor.

@colin another awesome day for PAW :nail_care:

Heā€™s leading the starters in plus minus!!

(was just texting a buddy that Giddey is -22 and is apparently just gonna be the Bulls tank commander the whole year)

The bulls have somehow entered a world where the only tradeable assets they have left are the young guys who contracts they havenā€™t had the opportunity to mess up yet (Whote, Ayo)

Lavine? Vooch? PAW? Giddey?

LOL

Was shocked Giddey didnā€™t get an extension. Really hard to imagine he gets a big offer as an RFA so maybe they actually play hardball and come out okay? Not like Iā€™d love him at 4/100 but thatā€™s prob close to fair?

Iā€™m always shocked when they do something sensible

If he rocks this year, match an RFA offer whatever

It was nice to see TIMMAY knocking them down.

The Pistons need to learn how to win close games this season. They blew a lot of 4th quarter leads last year.

@eric_shap boy Santi Aldama was cooking last night

They looked good in the first 3 quarters, but their offensive drought has doomed the Pistons. I do see improvement and coherency from this team. On to the next one!

Iā€™d imagine that Langdonā€™s priority is to find a defensive center who can protect the rim. Duren showed flashes early on but his defense gotten worse as the game goes on. Duren left Myles open at the perimeter far too much for my likings. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s due to scheme/game plan, but Myles has shown that he is a threat from 3 pt.

Thanks to all of the NBA games being free last night I actually watched the Pistons for once, which is very rare in the Chicago area unless theyā€™re playing the Bulls. There were definitely a lot of positives, but losing close games is something they have to figure out. Iā€™m not a huge NBA guy or X/Os guy, but the biggest thing to me was that late in the game there were a couple of really dumb things (6-men on the court, fouling a lunging 3pt shooter, etc.) and then we still generated a half-dozen open threes for Tobias or others and they never fell. Not ideal shots, but open threes in the NBA should go down more often than 5-26 in non-Hardaway shots.

My unscientific take is that if youā€™re going to hold last yearā€™s #2 in the league offense (121 Ortg) to a 116 Ortg (around league average last year would be 15th across the season), youā€™d hope to win, especially since youā€™re playing last years 25th ranked defense (same personel basically as last year).

The Pistons 110.5 ortg, for context, would have been 25th last year (this is better than what their offense was last year - 27th at a 109.7).

So, an unqualified good defensive performance (holding a very good offense to league average counts as good). A still very poor offensive one.

Itā€™s 1 game obviously lol.

The good news is that the variance is basically shooting - they were +5 possessions on the offensive glass and +3 possessions in the turnover department - youā€™d generally win on those margins. Part of the issue is that despite producing 3 less turnovers, the Pacers had 4 more steals and 6 more blocks - things that lead to transition, and WAY higher PPP opportunities,

The bad news is that the Pistons have been about the worst shooting team in the NBA for years, so dying by not shooting wouldnā€™t be novel.

Not sure if thatā€™ll happen. Hardaway Jr. just doesnā€™t provide much value outside his shooting.

THJ is a 32 year old role player. he was a bit player on a good team last year. thereā€™s not much rejuvenating to be done. but heā€™s made $135M dollars! So heā€™ll be alright but likely heā€™s a guy that just signs minimum contracts on bad teams for however long he has, if heā€™s lucky heā€™ll find his way on the end of the bench of a good team maybe
