This is funny

That was one of the more back breaking losses I’ve seen as a Pistons fan. I’m massively down on Cade. I think we’re boned.

I do NOT agree with this statement, however:

On Dunc’d on, Danny named the Pistons as NBA team he’d pick to have the longest playoff drought from this point forward (ie, not including the playoff drought to date). Personally, I’d have a team like the Bulls (won’t make it this year and haven’t even started a tear down) way ahead of them. I think if the Pistons go all Washington Wizards and push as hard as possible for the playoffs with the group they probably can at least snag a low seed in the next two years.

But the argument was that he’s souring on the idea that THIS group can make the playoffs, and if they can’t, the process of the front office identifying that and re-tearing down will take forever.

Should note, that the Dunc’d On guys are really, really, really, really down on Weaver and have been for some time.

At the very least, we have learned Cade cant’ carry a 30%+ usage for 37 minutes a game against a crowded paint.

Cade needs shooters to operate. The shooters on this roster are Burks, Bojan, Harris, Livers, and maybe Monte Morris. All of them have been out of the lineup for stretches. Duren has been in and out with an ankle sprain. Ivey’s been out with an illness.

It’s still impossible to project what Cade can do when he’s got Killian, Ausar, and Bagley out there as complete non shooters and no team is concerned at all if Isaiah Stewart takes a bunch of shots. Even Luka would struggle playing with this roster right now.

Too bad they traded a 39% high volume three point shooting wing for their 3rd center!

While Ivey isn’t a ā€œshooterā€ I guess he’s much more of one than most of these guys, and he and Burks continue to come off the bench.

Cade is playing with 4 people that defenses are completely comfortable leaving wide open. Let’s calm down a little bit. Maybe wait for Bogey and Monte to be healthy.

Still so annoyed by that

Ivey isn’t a great shooter yet but helps space the floor with his athleticism and driving ability

Depends on what you think Cade is. If you need him to be a Luka/Trae level scorer, he’s not that. I’m waiting for Bojan to come back. Cade was significantly better when he had Bojan next to him last year. Significantly fewer turnovers and similar usage.

We need him to be at least LaMelo Ball or Haliburton.

He’s played 87 career games. Barely a season’s worth. And the Pistons roster stinks. Both Ball and Haliburton have better players around them so it’s hard to compare when those guys play with Rozier, Hayward, Hield, Turner and Cade is playing next to Killian and Ausar. Pistons roster is not set up to make Cade look good.

Haliburton is way better than Lamelo ball

Never said otherwise.

Beef Stew is hitting .444 from 3 on just over 4 attempts a game. Not too shabby.

And its awesome to see him start hitting 3s. The problem is, nobody is scrambling to guard him. Teams are still letting Stew shoot open 3s and they’re like okay if Stew beats us by hitting so many 3s then so be it.

We need shooters next to Cade that are respected enough that make the defense sprint around when we are swinging the ball around because they don’t want to leave people open.

The main weakness of the team is that they turn the ball over way too much and Cade is the worst offender. Some of that is due to spacing but some is also due to his own carelessness.

Hopefully, both of these areas improve or it will be another really long season and there doesn’t seem to be any generational talent waiting on lottery day to soften the blow.

I mean,… except for Dug.

If Stewart keeps shooting like this, he’ll get guarded eventually. I think the issue he presents is more a compounded result of other choices (playing Thompson AND Hayes) - if Stewart was the 4th best shooter on the floor (which on most teams he probably would be) that’s fine. If he’s your SECOND…well, that because a major major problem. I think he brings enough in other aspects (rebounding, actually tangible effect defensively) to justify playing. I think he’s far from their biggest problem.

@JD1 , Cade definitely be turnover prone, but I still think it’s really hard to get an eval on him (positively or negatively) at the moment in that regard due to how messed up the offensive ecosystem is. I also think it’s possible he’s not not a guy who can swallow a Luka/Harden offensive load - which is obviously not prohibitive of being an All-Star level player, and maybe not even desirable generally.

I don’t see any sort of ceiling for Stewart’s shot specifically. He’s got a nice looking stroke and doesn’t need a ton of space and it’s going in. If he’s still at a 40% pace 20 games into the season, it’s time to make it a bigger part of the offense and to give Troy Weaver credit for signing him to a very reasonable contract. I didn’t think he could get to a place where he would project as more than just a really nice bench forward, but now I do.

Ten minutes of pornography. I’d call him a generational defender if Tarris Reed weren’t also of his generation.
