Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk

I think Ausar Thompson is the more heady, crafty player from what I’ve seen. I was more impressed with him.

I prefer Asuar over Amen. Asuar shooting form isn’t broken and is a better shooter than Amen (not saying much tbh).

if there’s any off-topic post that won’t lead Dylan to ask people to get back on topic, it might be “man city kicked my team’s rear end today”

I know little about the Thompson twins other than everyone here thinks they’re terrible. They seem like the worst case example of carefully crafted path through AAU/OTE leagues without ever having to face comparable elite talent or develop actual skills to compliment their athleticism. My son played with a kid like that in younger ages who was always the best athlete in the game and dominated with his speed, quickness, and strength…but never learned to shoot. Now he’s a junior and the starting PG for the high school team but basically just a defensive pest and offense initiator who avoids shooting at all costs and probably isn’t more than a D-3 quality player.

I think the idea of a player like Grady Dick is appealing for a Pistons team that lacks shooting…but I am not convinced he’s a plus NBA player worthy of a lottery pick. Is he significantly better than Livers? Feels like you can get 80% of him with a late-first or early-second pick.

Here’s an Ausar breakdown:

I don’t think they’re terrible. They have NBA athleticism and other NBA traits but to bet on them is hard for me to make considering they’re terrible shooters and that matters in the next level. The fact they’re an older prospects in a subpar competition scares me as well. The upside is appealing but there’s a lot of downside.

For the Pistons, they don’t need the Thompson Twins on their roster.

I have D*ck fourth on my board, but I also didn’t rank Brandon Miller

If I was, I’d have him 5th

So I think he’s a real NBA player worthy of a lottery slot

I should also say that I think that this draft from 3 on is pretty uninspiring.

Walker is the other guy I’d have coming up next, and he is the most Troy Weaver pick in the draft (long limbed raw athlete)

I will admit I don’t “get” Keyonte George.

Spins has the tiers this way:
Alphas: Wemby, Scoot
Alpha Upside w/ High-End Trajectory: Amen, Miller, Whitmore
Fringe All Stars at Peak: None
Safest High-Value Role Players/Connective Starters: Jarace, Ausar, Cason, Hendricks, Gradey

Just such an abundance of low-hanging fruit here. It’s tough, man. I’m an adult most of the time.

Is this Troy Weaver’s fault?

I’m not a lifelong Bayern guy but I was shocked when they fired Nagelsman. I’ve never enjoyed watching Tuchel’s teams (which is different from him being a bad coach), but just comletely restructuring after slaying PSG in the CL was just a shock.

Me neither. Don’t get me wrong, I rate Tuchel but this level of horniness for one guy, where you burn the entire season and the club’s reputation just to get him, is only justified for very, very few managers.

maybe if Juergen Klopp or like undead Ernst Happel became available I would go scorched earth but this is just ridiculous.

Klopp produces my favorite soccer, and appears to be needing a change soon. Should have held out for him! Bayern has so much attacking talent, that watching them play Tuchel’s borin a** style is just a shame.

Anyway, Pistons!

On the Game Theory Podcast, Sam and Spins were talking about how Amen Thompson would instantly be one of the 5 best athletes in the NBA next year

He definitely isn’t the best fit for us but he is intriguing.

There’s no doubting his athleticism but his shooting % at the rim is alarmingly bad for a guy who is an elite athlete.

He isn’t a fit for the Pistons with their current roster so I think I’m not worried about Weaver taking him at top 5.

It’s much harder to add a guy with extremes in his skillset – elite at one or two things and terrible at most others. You have to build around those guys. The opposite of plug-and-play. You risk them being played off the court in the playoffs. I am not interested in either of them.

Yeah I personally don’t want Amen to be the draft pick but if the Pistons end up taking him, it means Troy seems something there and I’d be able to talk myself into the excitement a little bit.

In the end, we just really need a top 3 pick lol. I’ll be so disappointed if we don’t pick top 3.

Shouldn’t the Thompson twins be averaging a million ppg on 110 FG% playing in OTE, and the fact that they aren’t is probably a sign that they shouldn’t be top 5 picks?

I do not appreciate you being condescending with this reply. I’ve said my concerns with the Thompson twins.

All I’m saying is not every prospects will pan out in the draft and I want to minimize risks while still taking quality prospects who has a better chance of panning out.
