You know what - they can, because the extension didn’t increase his salary sufficiently, which I guess matters.
And also it wasn’t signed on the third Thursday of the month within 7-21 days of the season’s midpoint in conjunction with another transaction involving two to four other teams at least half of which have bird mascots or yellow in their color schemes.

So, they have to trade Bogie right? I know they’re saying they won’t, but they have to say that right? There’s a lot of smoke surrounding Saddiq Bey too.
Is there an NBA duo that struggles from 2 as much as the combo of Bey and Hayes?
Bey started the season out really well from 2. The last 5-6 weeks, though, he’s dipped quite a bit.
I would rather trade Bey and keep Bogey to come off the bench. The Pistons need to add a wing defender or at least a potential one and they will likely have their choice of SFs in the draft.
What’s with the Pistons obsession for overdrafted bigs?
Yuck I hate it
Bey not staying long in Golden State on his way to Atlanta for 5 second round picks.
Detroit moving Bey and Knox essentially bumps Livers up the first wing off the bench now. He was ahead of Knox anyway, but his path is now pretty clear unless they make another move.
Meh, it’s whatever. I’m not as high on Bey as most Pistons fans. If the pistons didn’t just draft Duren then I’d really like taking a shot at Wiseman. As it is, it doesn’t make a ton of sense though since Duren and Wiseman cannot play together.
Pistons are still early in the rebuild though. By the time they can compete, Bey would be due for a bigger contract that I wouldn’t want to pay him
Wiseman is just another reclamation project. Detroit clearly didn’t want to pay Bey his upcoming extension and they don’t care about winning any more games this year. They’ll play Wiseman 20 minutes a game as the backup, hope he looks decent, and then trade him next season, either as a player somebody wants or a $12M expiring deal.
I think the shine was coming off Bey a little bit, but a functional 3 is far more valuable than the teams 4th center, which is the most fungible position in the NBA, unless you have Jokic or Embiid.
I’m guessing there’s more moves coming as this doesn’t entirely make sense as a stand alone.
I mean, if they flip Wiseman I’d feel better, but Troy would need to be a wizard or find a greater fool to get anything of value for Wiseman.
Welp. (Must not have found a taker for Nerlens Noel either.)
Keeping Bojan is pure insanity to me, as is Burks. They keep accruing veterans as if they’re going to compete, but their young guys aren’t anywhere close to being good enough to do so.
You can always trade them in the off season. I’d rather keep Bojan and Burks because I want them to actually have a bench full of proven veterans next year instead of reclamation flyers.
Bogdanovic’s highest value is right now, this moment. There are no fewer than 3-4 title contenders who would badly want him. He won’t play a minute for the next Pistons playoff team. Trade him.
Ditto Burks.
Meanwhile, the Warriors just dealt Knox and some 2nds for Gary Payton, who is actually useful.
Apparently the extension they gave Bojan has made him more appealing as a trade chip and that won’t change in the off-season (listened to some interviews with Pistons beat writers and cap experts.)
Sure, but the odds of him being this good next year have to be pretty unlikely given he’ll be 34 years old. His highest value is to help win a ring in the next 3 months.
