Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk (Part 1)

Three more games at home (Celtics, Nuggets, and Nets) before a four game west coast trip. Will be a tough stretch

Only 1 game back of the 4 seed

We’re taking down the teams we should, which is major progress. Hopefully, we can get a few W’s against the elite teams, as well.

If we beat Boston and have an 8-game winning streak, it will be our longest streak since Jan-Feb. of 2008, when we won 10 in a row. We lost to the Magic in our first game after the All-Star break to end the run. We also had an 11-game winning streak earlier that season.

I watched the Pistons score 148 on Sunday, then watched Michigan score 49 points last night. Basketball is truly an incredible sport.

The Pistons scored 76 in the first half of that game — which is more than Michigan has scored over their last three halves of :basketball:.

Yeah, but you have to remember that the NBA is a 48 minute game and college is 40. Michigan could have scored 100 more points in those extra 8 minutes

It’s very doable with the Pistons’ remaining schedule. Home court advantage in the first round would be incredible. The Pistons are starting to attract more crowds because the fans are noticing that they’re a good team.

I used to pray for times like this.

Also, I’m happy that the Jared Goff chant is done now that the other Detroit sports teams are good. That was embarrassing to chant for a player who isn’t a top 5 best player on the team especially when the Pistons, Wings, and Tigers are playing.

I think the Goff chant is dead because the he stunk vs Washington.

Good talk on the Pistons: https://www.youtube.com/live/NR6c5cO7G50?t=947s

They didn’t mention Beef as a legitimate rim protector. He’s so good at it and is a switchable defender as well. His contract was thought to be an overpay by non-Pistons fans but he is a great value for a player who can protect the rim and switch.

I feel vindicated in my years of defending Stewart as a good player, the kind that can be in the rotation on a contending team.

He’s a natural 5 and is far more comfortable playing there. I do wish he would take more 3s but it’s just nitpicking. I do think his time playing out of position at the 4 has molded him into being a switchable big.

The league generally is into Stew - he was really desired by many teams at the trade deadline just as an optimal third big who could play either spot well for a championship team

Just turns out the Pistons weren’t selling :grinning:

@mgl What are your thoughts on Buzelis? I think that he has a pretty good future ahead of him. In the days leading up to the draft, there was a lot of talk about the Pistons taking him. I’m quite happy with having Holland but I think both guys have potential to break out a year or two down the road and Buzelis is 2-3 inches taller.

I haven’t seen much Holland but looks like Buzelis’ shooting (he’s 60%+ true shooting the past 20 games, if you ignore the first 12 or so he played he’s at like 37% from three) and Holland’s effort level/athleticism are distinct. I do sort of wonder if Ron and Ausar can really ever exist in the same rotation.

On Matas, I’d say he’s the one possible piece for the future the Bulls have. I appreciate his shot blocking, I love his whole vibe (super-competitor)

Is Shroder generally considered a plus defender? When I watched a little of the Hawks game recently, he was out there with Holland and Thompson. Those three were really pressuring the ball well and the Hawks did not look comfortable. Don’t think you can play Holland and Thomspson together too often, but it was fun to see for a few minutes

It’s been awhile, but Schroeder’s plus was always athleticism, and I think he’s always been pretty good at getting into ball-handlers (that may have faded over the past few years?). His rep was always ā€œok guarding the ball, opportunistic steals guy, maybe a bit undisciplinedā€

That description fits what i gave seen in the few games he has played. It was fun to see the pistons playing some pressure defense that seemed to be effective. It’s fun to see the pistons playing good defense period. lol.
