Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk (Part 1)

Love to get a Pistons and UM victory on one night. Great game by Stewart. Love seeing Ausar back and seeing him knock down a 3. Big time shot at the buzzer for Jaden.

The Red Wings even won a game!

Huge win for Pistons. They win Tuesday off to the NBA Cup quarters. They could get a wildcard but too early to look at that.

They still need help if they don’t beat the Bucks but they’re in good position to move past the group stage. Win and they advance. It should be a nice confidence booster for the young core if they make it to the next stage.

Think the wildcard scenario if they’d need the Magic to beat the Knicks and they’d need to lose by less than 7 to stay ahead of the Celtics in the tiebreaker.

Warriors losing and Mavs winning would help because Warriors are undefeated with a +12 point differential.

Does it matter what happens with Western Conference teams?

I don’t think so. I believe the wild card spots are done by conference.

That’s what I thought. Thanks!

The Pistons end a 16-game losing streak to the Knicks tonight, winning 120-111. Cade with another triple-double.

The rise and fall in like 18 months of Mikal Bridges is super weird

Still wild to me that Knicks traded 5 first round picks for him. He’s a solid player, but feels like they could have gotten a better player than Bridges if they were willing to offer 5 first rounders in a trade

Trae Young vs NYK fans are the best rivalry in the league

He’s not even a solid player anymore!

Yeah the bull case was they’ll right size his usage and he’ll go back to being a defensive monster who shoots the lights out but that doesn’t really sound like a 5 pick player? Gobert and Mitchell are much better than that hypothetical player and I don’t think any of those swaps are happening any time soon for either.

And, yeah, that just isn’t really what happened at all. He’s just kinda the same guy as last year with worse usage. It’s like he’s secretly 34 instead of 28.

Yeah, the arc of his career I’ve the last 4 years:

-3 and D low usage quality shooter (60%+ TS) defensive ace
-High volume scoring on still great efficiency (over 60% TS), diminished defense, assumed to result from offensive workload
-40 point drop in true shooting, usage still high, defense still diminished due to workload I guess?
-Usage cut from 25% to 19%, true shooting unchanged from the aforementioned drop, defense still bad

So he went low volume high efficiency good D
To High volume high efficiency mediocre D
To high volume, slightly below average efficiency, mediocre D
To low volume, slightly below average efficiency, mediocre D

That’s an entire career arc from age 25 to 28

The only crazier arc is JJJ who has been a different player every season of his career (most of those players are very good)

I don’t like Trae but that’s at least in large part due to him being an incredible heel? It’s truly commendable

He embraced being a heel. Hearing New York fans chanting F Trae Young during the game and other sporting event is hilarious. They chanted F Trae Young during the Yankees game last summer!
