Detroit Pistons & NBA Talk (Part 1)

Never realized he was this much of an MSU fan growing up. Was a long time ago but I remember feeling pretty good at one point about Beilein landing him. Know he was in pretty early before he blew up. Am I misremembering the shot UM had at him? I’m not from Michigan and may have just not been that plugged in back then.

Yes losing him was one of my more disappointing recruiting results from the Beilein era. Beilein was on him for so long. Since like middle school. He camped at Michigan. Visited a bunch of times. Felt good for awhile. MSU was definitely in the thick of it too though. Faded once Kentucky got involved

Izzo claimed that Booker was down to MSU and Kentucky. I didn’t think they were really in the picture. :man_shrugging:

Lot of delusion in those times with um basketball recruiting. Coaches also thought they had a great shot at Luke kennard when they were 4th at best.

Dynamics of both recruitments changed a lot over time.

Same way C-Webb actually wanted to go to Duke and MSU more than Michigan (ignore where he actually went of course)

Izzo basically said he was Top Two for every player on the court. Isaiah Stewart, Booker. I think there was someone else.

Thoughts on the Suns: Durant was unguardable. I thought Ryan Dunn couldn’t shoot. He hit two threes and his defense was great. Was impressed by Oso Igodhoro. He always made the right play and really fit with the vets. He looks like the kind of low salary role player the Suns desperately needed.

Pistons: Ivey looked good again.

Unrelated to the NBA but is anyone surprised that Kofi Cockburn has not yet become a professional wrestler?

I’ve made a bet for Ivey for the MIP award. So far so good in the preseason

IIRC I think Michigan ended up not even making his top 3 or whatever. When he blew up he said sayonara real fast

The final three IIRC was Kentucky, Michigan and Missouri (where his dad played), but he also took an official to MSU.

There was a moment really early when he almost committed to Michigan early. They were on him very early when he was still in Michigan, but then he moved to live with his dad in Moss Point and his recruitment blew up and it was really always Kentucky.

Will always remember watching still-chonky-kinda-short-Devin Booker light up Michigan Elite Camp back in the day.

He’s such a fan of Detroit teams which always throws me a little with people from West Michigan. Esp if they are geographically closer to Chicago or something. I guess the state ties override that?

Also, if Matt Ishbia paid me $50 mil per year… I would wear whatever color shoes he wanted.

I grew up in the WM, majority of the people are fans of Detroit sports team with select few who are the Packers/Bears fans, Cubs fans and Bulls fans.

All the recent talk from Booker that he was going to commit to MSU I think is kind of bunk, speaking 11 years later. I’m sure he’s saying that to hype up his MSU owner and the game at Breslin. Pretty sure the thought at the time was 1. Kentucky, 2. Missouri, 3. Michigan, 4. MSU. Michigan even had a CB like a month or so before he committed to Kentucky. But needless to say, it was always Kentucky once it got to the end so doesn’t really matter.

has publicly narrowed his choices to Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri and Florida. However, Kentucky, Missouri and Michigan are believed to be the favorites for his signature.

booker was a state fan growing up
