Cleveland Cavaliers hire John Beilein

was wondering if stanford would be a fit for JB but Haase and co are actually having a nice little year going… maybe Cal could be a fit

I hate Draymond, but I like watching the rest of the team play. I could watch Klay and Steph shoot all day. They built through the draft, so I can’t hate on that. Can’t blame them for jumping on the Durant opportunity. They would have been insane to pass that up.

I might cut my left arm off to have Klay on the Pacers.

I think he was doomed from the get go. I heard Ryen Rusillo say on a podcast the other day that he heard the Cavs players were out on Beilein before the season even started.

They probably had no interest in long film sessions, extensive practice time on basic fundamentals and his intricate terminology.

Once the season started, Beilein probably hated the fact that there is almost no practice time between games and the losing is just miserable. It was just a mistake on both parties to think it would work.

Beilein clearly wanted to give the NBA a shot but the Cavs are a dreadful organization and he spent the last 40 years coaching college kids. It’s a huge adjustment to coach NBA players and I don’t think he was suited to do that with his controlling, meticulous coaching style.

This might be controversial but part of me just hopes that JB keeps his distance from the Michigan program at least through the remainder of this season. The success this team has had so far this year and for the rest of the year is entirely the players and Juwan’s doing and the last thing I want is for any sort of distraction to affect the final month of Simpson and Teske’s careers. Since he won’t be taking over another program before next season, I could see him making regular appearances at Michigan games and more but honestly I’m hoping that doesn’t happen just yet.

I think JB and Juwan have a solid relationship. I wouldn’t worry about it. JB wanted Juwan to be his successor in the first place. Happened in a different fashion, but JB is going to let him run his show like he envisioned for Juwan in the first place.

I would fully expect Beilein to dial it back on film sessions or the focus on fundamentals in response to players pissing and moaning. The last thing I would expect him to compromise on in his offensive system, especially if his roster doomed him regardless.

Now…if he felt he could win more games by tweaking his system to his personnel, then I would understand that, while still being a little surprised he would make that tradeoff in year 1.

I’m pretty sure Beilein has trouble adjusting his offense to the 24 second shot clock.

The idea of having to coach Andre Drummond for a half season was too much to bear.

For real though, if he doesn’t retire, college teams are going to be tripping over themselves trying to get him this off-season. Watch him end up at Texas with Yak.

I think the exact opposite would happen. Beilein would keep his distance on his own.

Yeah he’s gonna lay low. Would be shocked if he showed up to a game. I mean there’s only 2 games left for him to go to. Maybe maybe maybe he wants to go to Senior night but I doubt it.

Yeah, I don’t think we have to worry about that. It’s not JB’s nature to make a spectacle of himself.

Lol at Drummond making demands and the Cavs listening. Not sure you want to base your franchise decisions around this guy.

What a shitshow franchise. Everything that could go wrong went wrong from the outset.

To be honest Drummond promising to opt out would be sufficient reason to retain Beilein if you thought he sucks.

Pay Beilein $4.5M to save $29M on Drummond next year. That seems like a steal.

Loser franchise.

They should both just go.

Well count me grateful for the past 7 years and skeptical about the purported ceiling. And the number of posts is relevant how?

As far as this ceiling thing… I feel like you guys are all missing the point.

Beilein stays and the range of outcomes is very narrow. You knew very much what to expect. Beilein will recruit how he recruits, coach how he coaches, consistently be one of the top tier teams in the Big Ten and an elite NCAA Tournament coach.

Howard is different in that the range of outcomes is very wide. There’s still a ton of uncertainty so yes there are some more high value outcomes (maybe landing a top 5 class every year) on the table, but there are also more low value outcomes.
