Personally I think the IU/Michigan rivalry is fun when they are good. The game at Assembly Hall in 2013 was legendary, I've never seen anything like that.
With Michigan recruiting so many players from Indiana it also adds to the game. Tough to win there for U-M obviously, but probably one of those deals where it’s good for the whole league when IU is good.
All I can think about the IU/Michigan recent series has been the missed tip in, Oladipo’s windmill dunk at the buzzer, and Crean yelling at Meyer. And that he’s married to a woman that looks just like Jim Harbaugh. Ugh. Hope we bury them every time out.
I’m still very salty about that unnecessary Oladipo dunk. So unnecessary.
I loved it, that’s what makes rivalries. Nik blowing kisses at Breslin was unnecessary but I loved every second of it.
I didn’t mind it either, and I am especially glad that JB didn’t make an issue of it.
One of the (many) reasons I loathe Izzo stems from his complaining about Darius Morris’s layup in the closing seconds of the GTFO my court game. Michigan was only up 5 on a possession that started with 16 seconds left on the clock. Only Izzo would complain about that. Perhaps he had forgotten that a few years earlier he had his starters throwing alley-oops against Michigan while up 50 in the final minutes.
It’s sort of like when Bo Ryan flashes a look of utter disgust when Frank Kaminsky picks up his first foul (team foul #3) with 5 minutes left in the game, up 12. The refs really need to start doling out technicals to hypocrite and/or bully coaches.
Not sure how anyone can cheer for that program in its current incarnation.
I think if the situation were reversed, we’d still be cheering like crazy for the kids to be successful. But at the same time, I don’t think we’d be very proud. And I imagine it’s like that or many Indiana fans… maybe not the majority, but many.
Yeah, maybe… I’m not so much criticizing the kids (although Crean doesn’t seem to instill much discipline or sense of accountability in his team) as the Creaning aspect. It’s a sad story, actually. Whereas Ferrell and others have gotten in some trouble too but were probably too valuable to dismiss.
IU fans are trying to have it both ways: “CTC putting his foot down and standing up for what is right… By the way, now that we have two free schollies, let’s push hard for Maker and Swanigan!!!”
FWIW I do believe it…Swanigan was at Spiece on Sunday afternoon, his ‘handler’/guardian was all decked out in black and gold. Whoever this gentlemen was, it was very obvious to me that he was absolutely running the show…he wasn’t too discrete about his dislike for a certain coach.
Does Purdue make sense for Swanigan if he signs with them since they already have Hammons and Haas coming back? They all seem to be strictly centers so I don’t know how you divvy up the playing time between the 3. I guess it would be good problem to have for Purdue but it seems Swanigan would get more PT elsewhere. I thought Hammons made a lot of progress last year and should be primed for a strong senior year.
I am pretty sure his guardian is Rosevelt Colvin, former Purdue football player who went on to play in the NFL.
I have to imagine that Swanigan will be playing the 4 at Purdue. He’ll be a huge mismatch on offense, especially when stretch 4s are trying to guard him. Conversely, he will probably be a liability on defense against stretch 4s.
EDIT: His guardian is Roosevelt Barnes, not Rosevelt Colvin. But Barnes was also an NFL player who went to Purdue.
He wants to play the four… Purdue will play him at the four… But I’m not sure if it will work. A lot of huge bodies in the rotation no doubt with Hammons, Haas and Swanigan, but a lot of slow bodies too.
That will be interesting to watch to see if they can make it work with playing those guys together. Purdue should be good but I do think spacing and shooting will be issues for them next year.

Tradeoffs to everything, it will be a challenge for them to deal with speed at times, but the opposition will have to contend with the size/rebounding on the other end. The key for Purdue next year will be to avoid live ball TOs.

I am not sure that will matter much. If Swanigan gets beat he will have a nice weakside shot blocker in Hammons to erase shots. Swanigan won’t go out on the perimeter to defend guys but it’s up to those players to hit shots anyways.
