this 3x3 stuff is just silly. I think Serbia missed 2 or 3 shots. they play by 1s and 2s but you get 2 FTs when you get fouled???
Two shots after 7 team fouls, 2 shots and the ball after 10. The format was adjusted because players were fouling out and they couldnāt put the full 3 players needed on the court.
And itās not even sponsored by Gus Macker.
Hereās an article about Murray and some of his struggles.
The part of him not being there while Barrett/Dort/SGA/Brooks were has probably contributed. There were better signs today and he got 24 mins today. Spain will be tough but they should have enough to win. When SGA got 2 fouls in the first 2 minutes they went with Nembhard. Heās been ok but I can see Murray getting up close to 30.
They had 7 guys play over 22 minutes none over 26. Depending on opponents some may get close to 30.
Against Greece SGA and Barrett both were over 30.
Again, Murray I thought really helped offensively. Didnāt shoot well, but he had some real value add assists
Then yes they would for other games i imagine. Less foul trouble today as compared to Saturday. One guy fouled out 3 others with 4.
In an elim game Iād expect SGA to play at least 30.
In the world Cup he played 36, 40(OT), and 35 in the last 3 games. Iād say thatās kind of Canadaās advantage over the US, they get to play their best player the whole game
Hollinger had an article talking about the possession deficit USA has consistently had that weāve talked about here. And that defensively theyāve possibly even been propped up by 3 point shooting variance.
Def think they can not keep playing at the massive possession differential theyāve been at. Really no reason they are getting as few ORebs as theyāve been getting or giving up as many as they have, especially since theyāve been playing big.
The turnovers are obviously also way way too high. I went back and looked through the Tokyo box scores and that team was much better at taking care of the ball. Really gotta clean that up or they could easily lose
High turnovers are a pretty defining characteristic of Kerr-ball, and possibly indicative of not really knowing each other
Their TO issue so far as been entirely dumb, fixable stuff I think.
The Dā¦I dk, they havenāt actually been switching 1 thru 5 right? But they donāt just have effort issues there I donāt think. Theyāre also just not that used to playing w each other. I donāt think itās been bad relative to other teams but itās at least possible that amping up the effort wonāt go as far as weād like.
So, I dk, I think thereās a lot of relatively easy leveling up to do adding effort/focus. But it is plausible they just have to shotmake their way to gold.
Not sure where to put this but thought it was interesting - Metropolitans 92, the club Wembayana played for in France - went 4-32 this year without him, went bankrupt, and is going to close. Thats a pretty big 1 year turnaround!
He went their from AVSEL, which is one of the leagues traditional powers, but they had finished third the year prior to him joining, so not as if he joined a Mickey Mouse outfit.
Should have kept DeVanteā Jones and instead they got relegated! Googling it for five minutes, seems like they were owned by the local government who decided to stop footing the bill though.
Yeah I was wondering if we should blame some of the TOs on Kerr. But then again theyāre not running the warriors system either
We need some scouts going to Gus Macker tourneys!
Broadly speaking, my concern about the team is less the turnovers - they play super fast, and I think its a logical consequence of that - than the defense, which has just been sort of āFIBA averageā, which sort of conforms to my idea that I donāt think this is a very good defensive group?
Lebron can bring it for a possession here and there but heās pretty bad generally at this stage. Curry had risen to ānot badā but I think has fallen back to āpretty badā. Embiid is a solid defender, but not really in a way that is terribly functional for hte most part in FIBA where half the shots come from 3. Durant is pretty bad at this point. Booker is whatever.
There are obviously some good defenders here too (Jrue, White, Edwards, Davis and Bam are sort of made for FIBA big man defense - we just saw maybe the best rim-protecting lineup on earth get basically invalidated by a barrage of 3ās yesterday), but I struggle to see many 5-man lineups that are GOOD on this side of the ballā¦we have maybe 3 good perimeter defenders on the roster, and one is the least used guy in the rotation.
(FWIW, for all the tooth-gnashing about Halliburton getting DNPād to eternity, this is very obviously why, not some oblique comment he may or may not have made).
The weird thing to me is the Tatum DNPās - heās the only guy we have that can both shoot and maybe play defense on 4ās here? Without him, youāre stuck doing the double big thing for defense or playing Durant for offense.
Obviously we won by a ton against one of the better teams, and thatās really good, but I donāt know that 68% from 2 on a heavy middie diet and 56% from 3 is something weāre going to do every night (Iām not being catty here, maybe our talent level is so dominant we WILL be shooting this well against sub-NBA comp)
I definitely agree about being more concerned about defense. And as well about not really having any 5 man groups that are obviously really good. Lebron has had some nice blocks but isnāt elite defensively anymore. Steph has been pretty bad on D, and basic ball screens are still tearing our team apart
Why is 3x3 basketball an Olympic sport. The product is not very good.
like 80% of sports get added to inflate US medal counts
They should add āKnockoutā or āLightningā or whatever you prefer to call it.
