Yeah, I’m not counting on it or expecting it. But, more just hoping for it.
When did the rule change that players can play 5 years without redshirting? Like…huh?
Just googled and found out. Wow! Somehow missed that announcement.
Brooks has a nice body of work to go be a guard in Europe I would think, and Brown seems like a guy who could play G-League or do that, he has the 3 and D wing sized thing and NBA teams with a star big and ballhandler or two (Dallas, Denver, Utah, Lakers, Philly, Indiana and a bunch of other teams) often want 3 of those guys out there at all times basically.
Smith is the one I could see having a good financial reason for coming back, since a year of running the show for Dickinson, Diabate, Houston and Bufkin would get a ton of scouts in the building and presumably he would beat out a freshman Frankie Collins and Zeb since Howard would want continuity on offense and some veteran leadership out there to run things and push the ball. Might improve the offers he gets, and he presumably came here partly just to get some damn eyes on him. Even if he’s a Europe guy because of defensive concerns, his odds of getting a real look from an NBA team (and more likely a good Europe offer) probably go up if he stays.
There’s weirder guys than chaundee that are way better pros than I would have predicted.
One thing to consider here is an interview that Mike Smith did with Sam Webb and Tim McCormick. He stated that he wants to go into business and originally intended to try to get into Ross. The hang up was taking (and hitting a certain score or higher on) the GRE and Smith said he would’ve had to take the test on 2 days notice and didn’t feel comfortable about that.
Perhaps Ross is still the plan and he’s using this year to prep and take the GRE to get the score needed and he’ll begin there next fall.
Between 6’5-6’8 and strong and defensively engaged and can hit a 3 point players have gained a roster spot or two per team I think. If Chaundee Brown is Sterling Brown but a 36% 3pt shooter instead of a 40% guy I think he’s an NBA player, just not a rotation one. Orlando has a few guys like this (Gary Clark, James Ennis).
If you’re say Denver for example and you have Jokic and Murray playing 35-40 minutes a night together, you basically want three 3 and D guys around them. Dallas is ahead on this, surrounding their ballhandler in Doncic and big in Porzingis with 3 of these types in their starting lineup (Hardaway, Richardson, Finney-Smith).
As long as we are metaposting about boards and content, it seems like a good opportunity for me to say how much I appreciate the UMHoops expectation of conduct. I say that for my own sake, not anyone else’s. I generally lean towards silly and sophomoric humor elsewhere and I think this board has made me a more disciplined communicator.
Lol what a wild ride
Nothing wrong with silly, sophomoric humour. One thing that keeps me coming back to this forum is that it’s rarely directed at a specific poster. When it is, I get the impression that the poster on the receiving end knows that it’s just goofing around. That’s kind of rare in the world of internet forums, isn’t it?
Was just wondering what happened to him. This result makes sense as options have dried up
Franz at 23 here
Top B1G player on this draft board, just 5 spots behind Christopher. Isiah Todd nowhere to be seen…
Gotta imagine he moves up if he keeps playing like the last couple of games right? That defense and so many nice dimes, pretty hard to find wings with that complete a game
Just off eye test/basic stats it feels like Dosunmu, Harper and Wagner are the 3 guys in the conference who seem like they won’t be below average NBA players on one end of the court and you could really see playing NBA minutes next year without a coach yanking them off the court immediately after a mistake or two.
Then there’s a bunch of guys like Dickinson and Jackson-Davis who are good enough on one end but maybe not the other so maybe are 3rd center or end of bench guys, and some guys who project as okay 2 way but maybe don’t quite do enough on either end like Livers, Weiskamp and surprisingly Henry (though his struggles are small sample size and he’ll likely be the 4th guy in the above group of drafted players).
I think the freshmen are so talented that he won’t crack the lottery, but once you get to playoff teams in the 18-20 range and they need a wing who can play immediately off the bench he becomes a serious option.
Where is Todd on the list?
I don’t see Franz moving any higher than the 20s unless he shoots 40% from 3 the rest of the year.
If FT%age is more of a predictor of your 3 ball, IMO Franz is going to move himself up the board with 2s and assists. Get to the rim a little more; dish it out a little more.
