My good friend went to Kzoo Central, I went to watch Devon Daniels play against Trevor Manuel in the state playoffs a few weeks back. He got into foul trouble and didn’t make much of an impact early on, then went for 15+ by himself in the 4th quarter. I mean step back jumpers, strong finishes at the rim over Manuel, everything. Tons of potential with this kid. My friend told me he heard that Daniels has been hearing from UNC/Duke already, though I’m not sure about the truth to that.

Only a matter of time before high majors follow. REALLY hoping JB can get this kid to visit.

I like Daniel’s film quite a bit for an under the radar guy. It would be nice to have a slashing wing who looks pretty adept at finding open guys while he drives. It doesn’t show him taking a lot of jumpers though. How often does JB offer a wing without a solid jumper? The only one that maybe comes to mind is Dom Pointer.
Daniels jumpshot is much better in relation to Pointer.

Prather?
Pointer was just an elite athlete. Daniels is a very strong guard that can create for himself and get to the rack rather easily and also create for teammates a bit, but not good enough to be a PG. Probably not the best comparison, but I think of Daniels and am reminded of Tyreke Evans to a certain degree.
Don’t see the Tyreke Evans comparison at all. Evens could have been a guy who went straight from high school to the NBA due to his length, build and athleticism.

Guess I meant more style of play type comparison. But Daniels is definitely a good athlete with a decent handle.
Another under the radar/non-ranked prospect that I could potentially see the staff taking a look at is Jacob Cushing (2016) out of Illinois (plays for Mercury Elite AAU). Cushing appears to be in the 6’6-6’7 range. Has a really good shot from deep, can shoot off the bounce, can pass a bit, and displays ability to get to the rack off a decent first step despite not appearing to be all that quick. Has a nice floater in his game as well, and appears to be a decent finisher. The first comparison I could think of was Tayshaun Prince…with the floaters in the lane, and just the ability to be above average at several things rather than being good/elite at one. Looks like a decent prospect.
Interested to see who JB evaluates this weekend…his time will be limited because he will be in West Virgina to be inducted in the Wheeling HOF. I’ll try to stay on top of it as much as I can, but will be limited because I’ll be in Hampton/Boo Williams for the weekend.
Damn…
Josh Langford (http://t.co/UFBZR4w9WJ) had an in-home visit with UK last night. AZ offered. Florida, MSU, Auburn & UGa will in today & tom

Uk offered to, i think that dream is dead. Disappointing though that UM isn’t scheduled yo meet with him yet.

Ugghhhh. He was our best shot at an elite wing in 2016. Our prospects don’t look very good for what is a critical class.
New Devon Daniels highlights from UA session 1. Ok, I’m completely sold at this point. The kid is a good passer in the halfcourt out of PnR, finishes extremely well around the rim, strong as hell, has decent handle, mechanics are funky but appears to have a decent shot. Can anybody look at this film and tell me he’s not a top 100 player. Kid should easily be in the 60-80 range at minimum.
Assuming we have one scholarship for a wing in 2016, do you offer him now, hold out to see what happens with Battle and Langford, or would you offer Jefferson first?
I’d get him in campus ASAP and offer. Only a matter of time before he blows up. Talent is undeniable. I think Langford is better than Daniels in all aspects of the game, whereas I think Daniels is actually a better playmaker than Langford. Jefferson is such a commodity because he’s an above average shooter, with good athleticism, good passer, but the rebounding is what makes him really valuable for us.
In a nutshell, first to commit. All of those kids are legit high major talents in my view. Other than Langford, it’s just splitting hairs to be honest.

Matt, I’m going to pay you a small compliment. Often, I think you equate recruting success with where a player is ranked. Here, though, you advocate taking Daniels regardless of ranking.
I happen to agree. The kid looks really good on tape. His jumper needs a little work, but it’s not like he can’t shoot. The rest of his game is really nice.
This is what I’ve suggested we may need to start doing again - finding the under the radar types with elite talent (like Trey, Tim and Nik) and nail them down instead of fighting battles with the likes of Duke, Kansas, UK and AZ.
Assuming Daniels checks all the boxes (grades, decent guy), I’d be happy offering him right now. You also have to think it’s only a matter of time before Izzo tries to get his claws into him too.
