Whether you characterize it as being a shift or tweak is subjective. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle IMO. While JB has always recruited athletes (although not as much as shooters), the roster composition at any given time has not been very athlete heavy, while it has been heavy of 'just shooter' types with little in the way of athleticism. Generally speaking, we probably end up averaging 1 athlete/physical type per recruiting class, with the rest expended on shooting predominantly, and some ballhandling. I think JB realizes he has to increase that number to perhaps 2 athletes when we have a 4 man class available, and perhaps 1 when we have 3 spots open.
At the end of the day, this probably translates to JB coming to the realization that its very difficult to compete at a high level when the opposition is faster, quicker, stronger, with more verticality at nearly every position across the board. To that end, JB is probably looking to have athlete/physical types compose 33-50% of his roster as opposed to 15-20% of his roster (just subjective percentages based on my own opinion).
